Visual prognosis following treatment of acute central retinal artery obstruction.

چکیده
The authors report the visual outcome in 34 consecutive cases of treated acute central retinal artery obstruction. Visual acuity equal to or better than 6/30 was recovered in 35% of the cases. The presenting visual acuity and duration of visual impairment appear to correlate with visual prognosis.

Retinal Artery Occlusion
Retinal artery occlusions (RAO) are characterized by the sudden obstruction of the arterial blood flow in the retinal circulation with consequent ischemic damage to the retina. RAO can be subdivided into several forms, including central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) and Branch retinal artery occlusion (BRAO). Patients affected by CRAO experience a sudden, monocular loss of vision. On fundus b...

PURPOSE To present clinical features of central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) following retrobulbar anesthesia for intraocular surgery. METHODS This observational case series describes 5 consecutive patients with acute CRAO following retrobulbar anesthesia for intraocular surgery. PURPOSE To report successful treatment with transluminal Nd:YAG laser embolysis (TYE) combined with urokinase thrombolysis for reperfusion of occluded branch retinal arteries with visible emboli. METHODS A total of 34 eyes from 34 patients with acute, severe vision loss secondary to a branch retinal artery occlusion with visible emboli and retinal whitening were examined. Each patient was adm...
متن کاملSuperselective intraarterial fibrinolysis in central retinal artery occlusion.
Intraarterial fibrinolysis was performed in three patients with acute central retinal artery occlusion using recombinant tissue plasminogen activator as a fibrinolytic agent. In two cases the ophthalmic artery was selectively catheterized, and in the other a thrombolytic drug was infused into the ophthalmic artery by way of the meningeal collaterals. All patients experienced visual improvement....
متن کاملFrontal sinus cyst surgery complicated by central retinal artery occlusion
Central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) is a retinal ischemic disorder associated with sudden loss of vision and has a poor prognosis. We report a case of CRAO that occurred during frontal sinus surgery involving craniotomy in a patient with a frontal sinus cyst. The prognosis for treatment after the acute phase is generally unfavorable; however, aggressive treatment is recommended for patients...
